Your WhatsApp number, without changing it: Coexistence mode¶

In short: Wably works on your usual WhatsApp number. You do not have to create a dedicated number, you do not have to notify your clients, you change nothing in the way you already work. It is one of the most important things about the product, and very few tools offer it.

Why the number is the problem nobody tells you about¶

When you are evaluating an automated assistant for WhatsApp, the question of the number looks like a technical detail. It is not: it is the choice that determines whether the tool makes your life simpler or more complicated.

Most solutions require a new number, dedicated to the bot. On paper it looks tidy. In practice it means three things:

• you lose your history, that is, years of conversations with your regular clients;
• you have to give everyone the new number, and for months you will receive messages on both;
• you manage two identities, with the risk that a client writes to the old number and gets no reply.

Wably avoids all of this because it does not need a number of its own.

What Coexistence mode is¶

WhatsApp Business lets two things live on the same number: you, using WhatsApp from your phone as always, and the AI assistant, replying automatically in parallel. That is Coexistence mode.

In practice:

• Your number stays yours. No second number, no new SIM, no new contact to share with clients.
• You keep using WhatsApp normally from your phone: write, read, reply by hand whenever you want.
• The assistant works alongside you, transparently: it handles bookings and replies while you do other things.

What changes concretely for you¶

Your history stays where it is¶

The conversations you have already had are not deleted or moved. You carry on seeing each client's history in the same chat as always, and the assistant joins that conversation instead of opening a parallel one.

You keep writing from your phone¶

You do not have to go through a dashboard to reply to a client. You open WhatsApp the way you always have and write. When you step in, the assistant does not talk over you: you can also pause it for that single contact, as explained in customization and control.

You do not need a second phone¶

There is only one number, and it stays on the phone you already have. You do not have to keep a device switched on at the practice, you do not have to leave a session open somewhere, you do not have to change SIM.

What changes for your clients¶

Nothing, and that is exactly the point.

They carry on writing to the number they have in their contacts, in the conversation they know. They receive no change-of-number notice, they do not have to save a new contact and they notice no migration at all.

The only difference they perceive is that now they get a reply at nine in the evening too.

Why it is rare to find¶

It is worth understanding why almost nobody offers this mode, because it is a good criterion for evaluating the alternatives.

Making automated replies and manual use coexist on the same number is technically harder than assigning a dedicated number to the bot. Many providers take the easy road and offload the complexity onto you, in the form of a new number to manage.
