The Address book: who talks to the assistant¶
The Contacts screen — titled AI Contacts Manager — is where you decide which contacts can interact with the AI assistant.
What's on the screen¶
- Sync: updates the list with contacts from your connected Google account.
- AI for all: a toggle that turns the assistant on or off for all contacts at once.
- Search by name or phone: filters the list on the fly.
- The contact list: for each one you see the name, Phone and Email and, on the right, a toggle in the AI Assistant column. On = the assistant replies to that contact; off = it stays silent. If you have many contacts, you'll find pagination at the bottom to scroll through the pages.
How to decide who the assistant handles¶
- Turn on the toggle for the contacts you want to hand over to the assistant, or use AI for all to activate them all together.
- The contacts you import arrive with the toggle off: no one receives messages until you turn it on.
Why contacts start "off"¶
When you sync your address book, all contacts arrive deactivated for conversations with the assistant. It's not a limitation: it's protection designed for you.
In your Google address book there aren't only clients. There are usually also family members, friends, suppliers, colleagues. If the assistant were active for everyone by default, it would reply to them automatically too.
A concrete example
You have your mother's or your child's number in your address book. They message you on WhatsApp "See you tonight?": with the assistant active for everyone, Wably would reply to them as if they were clients, offering times and bookings. That's not what you want.
By starting off, you choose who to hand over to Wably: usually only clients, leaving your personal contacts in silence. This way the assistant automatically handles the requests of people who really book, and doesn't interfere with private conversations.
How to go about it in practice
- Have few clients? Turn on the toggle only on their contacts, one by one.
- Use a number dedicated solely to work, where your address book holds only clients? Then you can safely use AI for all to activate them all together.
The master switch
Turning the assistant on and off overall is done on the Home screen (the AI Assistant switch). The Address book is where you choose, contact by contact, who can be handled when the assistant is on.
Sync is one-way¶
The Sync button copies contacts from Google Contacts to Wably, never the other way around.
- Wably reads your Google address book to show you the list and let you choose who to hand over to the assistant.
- Wably never modifies or deletes the contacts already in your Google address book.
Your Google contacts are never deleted
Whatever you do inside Wably — activate, pause or remove a contact from the assistant's list — it doesn't touch the existing contacts in your Google Contacts. Read sync works in one direction only (Google Contacts → Wably) and never the other way: what you change or delete in Wably is never propagated to Google, and Wably doesn't delete or alter your Google contacts.
The only possible write: adding new contacts
There's a single exception, and it's opt-in: if on the Home screen you turn on the Allow the AI Assistant to create new contacts in Google Contacts toggle, Wably adds the new clients who book via WhatsApp to your address book. It's only an addition of brand-new contacts: even then Wably never modifies or deletes the ones you already have.
Frequently asked questions¶
If I switch a contact off, do I lose their messages? No. Messages still reach you on WhatsApp: the assistant simply doesn't reply on your behalf.
Can I change my mind whenever I want? Yes, at any time, with a single tap.
