Connect Google Contacts¶

Connecting Google Contacts is required and does two things: it lets Wably recognise the clients who message you, and it lets you decide, one by one, who can talk to the assistant. If you already have a client address book on Google, you can bring it into Wably without rebuilding it from scratch.

You connect it from the Google Contacts card on the Integrations screen.

How to connect Google Contacts¶

1. Open the Integrations screen (from the dedicated step of the Guided activation).
2. Tap the Connect button in the Google Contacts card.
3. In the Google window, select the account and authorise access.
4. When done, the card shows the status Connected.

The connection status is always visible on the Integrations card of the Home too.

Importing and updating the list¶

Once the service is connected, go to the Contacts screen and use the Sync button to load or update the list.

The sync works in the background: after a moment the contacts appear in the list, with name, phone number and email where available. You can repeat it every time you add clients to your Google address book, with no risk of creating duplicates: contacts already there are updated, not duplicated.

If you want to skip that step for a contact you're creating right now, you can turn the assistant on by writing bot in the Google contact notes.

Your contacts are safe¶

This is the point we get asked about most, so we'll say it without beating about the bush.

Wably imports and syncs contacts into its own protected storage, but it never deletes a contact from your Google address book: it can read and add, never remove. If you delete a contact from Google, Wably removes it from its own list to stay in sync, but the movement never happens in the opposite direction.

What's more, when a new client books for the first time, Wably creates the contact automatically in its own list, so you never lose a name.

From the Home you can also switch on a toggle that automatically adds to your Google address book the new contacts created from bookings. It's your call: if the toggle stays off, your Google address book is never modified.

You decide who talks to the assistant¶

Connecting Google Contacts doesn't switch the assistant on for your whole address book. It populates the list you then work on: on the Contacts screen you switch the assistant on or off contact by contact, or for everyone at once with the general toggle.

That separation is deliberate: importing isn't activating. You can bring two hundred names into Wably and have the assistant reply only to the ones you choose, perhaps starting with a small group to get comfortable.

If you change your mind¶

You can disconnect Google Contacts at any time from its card, with the Disconnect button. From that moment the list no longer updates and new clients aren't added to your Google address book, but the contacts already in your Google account stay intact: disconnecting removes access, it doesn't delete anything.

Keep in mind, though, that the connection is required: until you reconnect it, the dashboard takes you back to the Guided activation.
