Contacts¶
The Contacts screen, subtitled "Choose which contacts the AI assistant can talk to", is where you decide who can interact with the assistant. It's your address book inside Wably.
What's on the screen¶
- The green AI FOR ALL panel, "Turn the assistant on or off for all contacts at once", with its toggle.
- Sync: updates the list with contacts from your connected Google account.
- The Search by name or phone or email field: filters the list on the fly.
- The contact list: for each one you see the name, the contact details below it and, on the right, a toggle. On = the assistant replies to that contact; off = it stays silent.
How to decide who the assistant handles¶
- Turn on the toggle for the contacts you want to hand over to the assistant, or use AI FOR ALL to activate them all together.
- The contacts you import arrive with the toggle off: no one receives messages until you turn it on. The only exception is the shortcut described below, which you choose contact by contact.
Why contacts start "off"¶
When you sync your address book, contacts arrive deactivated by default for conversations with the assistant. It's not a limitation: it's protection designed for you.
In your Google address book there aren't only clients. There are usually also family members, friends, suppliers, colleagues. If the assistant were active for everyone by default, it would reply to them automatically too.
A concrete example
You have your mother's or your child's number in your address book. They message you on WhatsApp "See you tonight?": with the assistant active for everyone, Wably would reply to them as if they were clients, offering times and bookings. That's not what you want.
By starting off, you choose who to hand over to Wably: usually only clients, leaving your personal contacts in silence. This way the assistant automatically handles the requests of people who really book, and doesn't interfere with private conversations.
How to go about it in practice
- Have few clients? Turn on the toggle only on their contacts, one by one.
- Use a number dedicated solely to work, where your address book holds only clients? Then you can safely use AI FOR ALL to activate them all together.
The master switch
Turning the assistant on and off overall is done on the Home screen, in the green band at the top. This screen is where you choose, contact by contact, who can be handled when the assistant is on.
The shortcut: write "bot" in the Google contact notes¶
If you'd rather not go through the dashboard, you can turn the assistant on while you're saving the contact on your phone.
- In Google Contacts, create the new contact the way you usually do.
- In the Notes field, write the word bot. It can stand alone or sit inside a sentence, for example "first visit, bot".
- Save.
At the next sync that contact appears in the list with the toggle already on.
The sync runs on its own every night. If you want to see the result right away, press Sync.
How the word has to be written
It has to be the whole word bot: upper and lower case make no difference, so bot, Bot and BOT all work the same way. Words like robot or chatbot don't trigger anything.
It applies to new contacts
The word bot in the notes takes effect when the contact enters Wably for the first time. If the contact is already in your list, adding it now changes nothing: use the row toggle, which always has the final say.
Sync is one-way¶
The Sync button copies contacts from Google Contacts to Wably, never the other way around.
- Wably reads your Google address book to show you the list and let you choose who to hand over to the assistant.
- Wably never modifies or deletes the contacts already in your Google address book.
Your Google contacts are never deleted
Whatever you do inside Wably - activate, pause or remove a contact from the assistant's list - it doesn't touch the existing contacts in your Google Contacts. Read sync works in one direction only (Google Contacts to Wably) and never the other way: what you change or delete in Wably is never propagated to Google, and Wably doesn't delete or alter your Google contacts.
The only possible write: adding new contacts
There's a single exception, and it's opt-in: if on the Home screen you turn on the Save new contacts to Google Contacts toggle, Wably adds the new clients who book via WhatsApp to your address book. It's only an addition of brand-new contacts: even then Wably never modifies or deletes the ones you already have.
Frequently asked questions¶
If I switch a contact off, do I lose their messages? No. Messages still reach you on WhatsApp: the assistant simply doesn't reply on your behalf.
Can I change my mind whenever I want? Yes, at any time, with a single tap.
I wrote bot in the notes but the contact is still off. That contact was probably already in your list: in that case the word in the notes has no effect and you need to use the row toggle. If it really is a new contact, press Sync: the automatic sync runs once a day.
If I write bot in the notes, can my clients see it? No. The contact notes stay in your Google address book and never show up in WhatsApp conversations.
